Butch Mouck’s team from Gilbert Plains won the Thistle Senior Men’s Bonspiel (on Nov 12th), topping the Mark Franklin foursome from the Granite club 6-4 in the final.
Mouck was unbeaten in the bonspiel with five with five straight wins, earning his team of Glen Parrot, Scott Gray, and James Barnett a $1,600 top prize, and a berth in the Strathcona Senior Provincials.
Mouck’s team is the fourth to qualify for the provincials at Winnipeg’s Assiniboine Memorial Club February 21st-26th. They join defending champion Murray Warren of Deloraine, Ray Baker of Dauphin, and Franklin, who earned a berth in the Granite spiel the previous weekend.
Franklin’s runner-up prize was $1,000. Losing semi-finalists Dale Brooks of Hamiota and Alan Fitzmaurice of Brandon earned $800 apiece, while Clyde Kindzierski of Deer Lodge won the consolation event worth $500.
Our season will begin on Wednesday, October 11th for the Wednesday night league and Thursday, October 12th for the Thursday night league. The schedule will follow shortly. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
The long awaited curlingforlife.com website has arrived. This website gives information about what CurlManitoba is striving to achieve by way of growing and developing our sport and supporting our Junior curlers in Manitoba with the interest built from this fund.
In partnership with the Winnipeg Foundation, CurlManitoba has started to take donations. The goal is $1,000,000. If every registered curler in Manitoba alone donates $40, CurlManitoba will have reached its goal. $1,000,000 affords CurlManitoba $15,000 a year in interest to donate to scholarships, develop programs for non curlers and keep our sport alive and healthy.
Every donation counts. Please consider to give generously.
