We are aware of the many rumours going around and so it is now time to inform you of the future of the club. There was an offer to purchase the land and building of the Thistle Curling Club Limited a few years ago but the offer was dropped by the developer many times and did not go any further.
In the past couple of years, the land and buildings around the club have been purchased, unfortunately leaving us as the only building left. This would greatly affect the way the club would be able to conduct business. In addition, there are certain fiscal realities we’re faced with, in terms of unaffordable major capital outlays, and significant losses during the COVID years. Therefore, discussions started to see what options were available to us. The consensus was to see if it were possible for the Thistle to move to another club and amalgamate with them to create one strong club going forward. Discussions commenced with the Deer Lodge Curling Club (DLCC). They were very receptive to the idea of both clubs sharing the same building and agreed it would be good for both clubs. This is a great opportunity for the Thistle Curling Club to continue, as we are now in our 135th year of existence. The two clubs will be joining for the 2023-24 season at the location of the DLCC at 425 Woodlawn Street.
This was a really hard decision to make and it is with mixed emotions that we announce the land and building which the Thistle Curling Club has called home for the last several years will be put up for sale.. While we are sad to say goodbye to the facility we have called our home, we are excited about the opportunity to bring our rich history and membership into a newer facility.
The Executives of the two clubs have met to look at scheduling and have a plan in-place to accommodate our leagues. There are some start times that may need to be altered by 30 minutes. There is the possibility of merging and forming larger, healthier leagues with some existing DLCC leagues that are low on curlers. We are happy to announce that all leagues are going to be accommodated and will have a new home for next season in a very similar timeslot that they are accustomed to. DLCC Board Members will be available to talk through the plan and options available.
We will fondly remember all the great times and friends we have made at 280 Burnell, but we look forward to all the new ones we will make in the years to come at Deer Lodge. We hope to see you there.
We understand that many of you will have questions, so if you do, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
